East Lansing Office
Since we opened our doors in 1978 as Urban Options in East Lansing, our nonprofit has pioneered work that improves decision- making and actions on energy efficiency and sustainability in our communities. Good information and good practices lead to good change, we believe.
We have been accomplishing our mission through collaborative projects that cut across sectors, engaging state agencies, local governments, businesses, other nonprofits, education and communities.
Our main office in East Lansing—in a "reclaimed" c1920s house—has been an essential platform for our mission of guiding communities towards energy efficiency and sustainability. We were one of the first sites to be designated an Energy Demonstration Center by the State of Michigan. Today, we continue that role as a resource for energy conservation, renewable energy, recycling, water conservation, composting and green buildings. To further advance this role, we are upgrading our building to LEED standards and updating our exhibits and offerings to reflect the latest and the best in energy education and technology.
Statewide, we offer many established and new programs and educational opportunities for communities, businesses and residents. We have worked in all 83 counties in the state and estimate conservatively that we've reached more than 1 million people with our work.
Now into our fourth decade of service, our venerable nonprofit continues to hold true to our foundational convictions, while also finding innovative ways to engage more people in what we believe is in their own best self-interest: conserving energy, living lighter on the planet and improving the quality of life in the state in which we live and work.
Stop in when you're nearby. Join our effort if you are so disposed. We'd love to have you.
